About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated lead dispenser to join Long Stratton Medical Partnership on a full-time, permanent basis. This role offers the chance to work within a well-established dispensing practice, supporting safe, effective medicines supply and contributing to high-quality patient care.

Main responsibilities will include;
  • Lead and supervise the dispensing process to ensure prescriptions are dispensed accurately, safely, and in line with current SOPs and professional guidance.
  • Provide visible leadership within the dispensary; lead by example, promote the Practice vision and values and encourage cross-departmental teamwork.
  • Manage and coordinate dispensary rotas to ensure safe staffing and efficient service delivery, including arranging cover for annual leave/sickness and managing workload peaks.
  • Support recruitment, induction and ongoing performance management for dispensary staff in line with practice HR policies, including participation in appraisals and the use of records of conversation where needed.
  • Undertake or organise checking of colleagues’ dispensing as required and escalate any concerns to the authorising clinician or dispensing/prescribing lead GP.
  • Ensure that all dispensed medicines/appliances are checked against the prescription, including dose, quantity, directions, contraindications, and labelling; where there is doubt, liaise with the duty/authorising prescriber before supply.
  • Support and coordinate dispensary participation in quality schemes and audits (e.g., DSQS and prescribing/dispensing quality improvement activity) and maintain evidence as required.
  • Ensure the secure receipt, storage, handling and issuing of controlled drugs (where applicable) in line with SOPs; maintain registers and undertake periodic stock checks/audits.
  • Ensure medicines are stored securely and appropriately, including segregation, expiry date control, and adherence to manufacturer’s storage requirements.
  • Stock control management.

About Us

Our practice has 5 Partner GPs leading an MDT of 3 permanent salaried GPs, an emergency care practitioner, an advanced nurse practitioner, 2 clinical pharmacists, a pharmacy technician, a team of registered nurses, 3 HCAs and a phlebotomist plus superb teams in reception, administration, and dispensary, along with the surgery management team.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package including 5 weeks annual leave (plus bank holidays), the NHS pension scheme, and an Employer Assistance Programme for the employee and family members. We also offer free on-site car parking, team building and social activities and access to NHS discounts.

At Long Stratton Medical Partnership, we take pride in being a family focused, close knit team – our ‘work family’ is how we often describe ourselves. We offer a supportive, positive culture which is well-lead, and provide regular supervision and training for all staff.

Long Stratton is a small town in South Norfolk, 10 miles from the historic city of Norwich.  We have 11,500 patients on our list, a CQC rating of ‘Good’ and operate from both our main site and a branch site in Newton Flotman.  We are also a dispensing Practice with a dispensing list of around 5,500 patients.  We use SystmOne and run cloud-based telephony which links seamlessly with the clinical system and provides excellent functionality.

We have completed our surgery expansion work with a new wing being added to include 7 clinical rooms. The reason for the expansion is that Long Stratton is being bypassed, 2,000 new homes are planned and therefore potentially 5,000-6,000 new patients will be joining us.
