About the Role

Oak Street Medical Practice have a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join the practice, to support the nursing team, on a full or part-time basis, depending on the hours sought by the successful applicant. This is a maternity contract for 6 months, with a possible extension, ideally to start at the end of November 2024. 

The healthcare assistant will be able to apply their clinical skills and knowledge to carry out high quality practice within designated clinical areas such as:

  • Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines.
  • New patient health checks.
  • Blood pressure/weight/height/BMI checks.
  • Wound dressings and suture and clip removals.
  • Urine testing and analysis and submit samples to the laboratory following the practice protocol.
  • Wound dressings and suture and clip removals.
  • Obtain specimens, ensure their maintenance under correct conditions and dispatch to the appropriate agency.
  • Perform ECGs.
  • Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.
  • Provide valuable health promotion and education for service users, their families, and carers.

About the Candidate

If you are a qualified and experienced healthcare assistant looking for a fresh and exciting challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and qualifications: 

Essential qualifications, skills & experience:

  • Successful completion of the care certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC.
  • Level 3 Diploma in health and social care, or equivalent.
  • Experience of working within a GP practice.
  • A qualification in phlebotomy/venepuncture.
  • Strong clinical skills.
  • Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post.
  • Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

Oak Street Medical Practice is a team of some 30 members, including 2 partners. We have an exceptional multi-disciplinary team including physician associate, advanced clinical practitioner, nurses, nursing associate, healthcare assistants, social prescriber, mental health nurses, physiotherapist, and trainee pharmacy technician.
