About the Role

Greenwood and Wyncroft Surgery is looking for an experienced healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role with both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role is offered on a part-time basis, for 15 hours per week over 2 days, Monday and Friday.  

You will need to have previous experience working within a similar position to be considered. 
 
Main duties of the role:
  • Carry out base-line observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, recording findings accurately.
  • Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines.
  • Ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
  • Update patient health records.
  • Ensure that medical supplies are in stock.
  • Act as a chaperone where required.
  • Assist GP during the performance of minor operations.
  • Communicate with patients, relatives, and carers including providing valuable health promotion and education.
  • New patient health checks.

About the Candidate
The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such we are only looking for applications from those with previous primary care experience.
 
All applicants should have the following skills and qualifications:
 
Essential - these are a requirement to be considered for the role:
  • Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Experience of working within a GP practice.
  • Qualified phlebotomist. 
  • Strong clinical skills including venepuncture.
  • Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

Greenwood and Wyncroft Surgery is a 2 site practice based in Bicknacre and South Woodham Ferrers, Essex. Our practice team consists of 1 GP partner, 2 long term locum GPs and a dedicated and supportive clinical team including ANP's ACP's and a prescribing paramedic as well as 3 healthcare assistants. We are support 11,000+ patients and have a full management and administration team.
