About the Role

Loughton, Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell PCN has a fantastic opportunity for a GP assistant (GPA) to join our team on a full-time basis. The GPA position is a support role, covering administrative tasks and, if appropriate, some basic clinical duties, to assist the GPs, enabling them to make the best use of consultation time.

The post-holder will form part of our multi-disciplinary, primary-care team and contribute to the smooth running of the surgery.

Key responsibilities will include;

  • Collaborate with PCN staff to achieve priorities such as appointment utilisation, immunisation programs, and QOF.
  • Identify and support a cohort of patients requiring personalized care, ensuring seamless navigation across health and care services.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients in your caseload, addressing their queries and supporting appointment scheduling.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with patients, referrers, and other care providers regarding care progress, challenges, and guidance.
  • Complete basic (non-opinion) forms, and core elements of some forms, for the GP to approve and sign.
  • Coordinate and promote uptake of national and local screening and immunisation programs.
  • Monitor referrals to ensure timely task completion and adherence to national care timelines.
  • Coordinate care pathways with multi-agency teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Scan and code medical correspondence.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with GPs, paramedics, pharmacists, ANPs, social prescribing link workers, health & wellbeing coaches, and other primary care roles to provide holistic patient support.
  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of care plans, including the creation of personalized care and support plans (PCSP) in line with best practices.
  • Provide accurate and timely performance reports within the agreed framework.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings within the network.
  • Maintain confidentiality in line with all policies and procedures.
  • Encourage and develop engagement with practice staff to foster a culture of best practice.
About the Candidate
Whilst the following skills and experience are important, we would welcome applications from people who can demonstrate strong transferable skills:
 
  • Administrative experience.
  • strong organisational skills.
  • IT skills, including experience of working with a clinical system, specifically SystmOne or EMIS.
  • Excellent communication skills and a friendly manner.
  • Ability to understand the need to maintain confidentiality and data security, at all times.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work accurately under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as being comfortable working independently.
